DREAMFALL CHAPTERS- Xbox One version (available on others)

A Cyberpunk world. A Steampunk world. A complicated story that gets more and more complicated as it goes on, dedicating resource to seemingly endless cut scenes to tell it. Likable characters, super powers, light action, heavy puzzle/problem solving. Fantastic game, but as well, often times it becomes annoying. I loved it, except for the parts that irritated me.

This is Dreamfall Chapters. I downloaded and played through the Xbox One version.

I also sat through cut scenes that seemed to go on forever. These cut scenes would take forever to load in, as well, one at a time.

I had difficulty following the story. I may look on the internet for the entire set of cut scenes and watch them all back-to-back to try to get a better idea. I do this with movies with complicated stories- I will watch them several times. But I don't think I'll be PLAYING through this game again anytime soon.

Now don't get me wrong. I like Steampunk and I LIVE for Cyberpunk, and the idea of these two worlds coming together in such a way is great. In this game, the two worlds are linked via dreams, and there are certain characters who are able to move between the two worlds. Zoe is the main one, and as the game progresses, we find out there is much more to her than just this ability.

The basis of the story revolves around Zoe's mother wishing to re-order the Universe by using dream power. That's right. If this one sentence makes you think there is much explaining to be done, you are right- there is. Be prepared to have a great many things explained, with the controller down. Yes, it is too much to reveal here, even if I wasn't worrying about spoilage.

The controls are simple and intuitive. I found the use of a walk through to be of help, otherwise I doubt I would have ever made it through. Some of the missions are very particular, and detailed, and I don't think I would have been able to complete some of the later missions without this kind of help. This is anything but a short, simple game. It will occupy long hours of your time, I wish more of that time would have been game play, and not as much sitting and watching. I also wish the story was easier to follow. Yet I still liked playing it quite a bit. Overall this one spoke to me, and it held my attention. If you are looking for a long, complex RPG at a reasonable price, download this one. For how much time you will spend being entertained, it is worth it.
7/10.
